A vast waterway deep in Tasmania’s wild south-west, Macquarie Harbour is a body of water that is seven times the surface area of Sydney Harbour. The natural mix of clean, cold fresh water flowing from the Franklin & Gordon Rivers into the salt waters of the Southern Ocean provides a perfectly natural environment for growing premium quality Ocean Trout and Atlantic Salmon.

Petuna’s hatchery in the rural township of Cressy is located a short distance from Tasmania’s central highlands, an area dotted with lakes of cool, clean water. Having such excellent water is critical to giving our trout and salmon hatchlings the best possible start in life. Hand selection of stock and meticulous husbandry do the rest.

Devonport

Petuna’s Devonport factory is a state-of-the-art processing facility, where fish are expertly processed and packaged for their journeys to local and interstate markets and exports destinations including the United States, Japan and South-East Asia. Value adding takes place here, including hot and cold smoking and the preparation of fillets and other portions.

Rowella – Van Diemen Aquaculture

Brass-cage technology and walkways linking sea cages in the Tamar River to the shore make Rowella unique among aquaculture sites in the southern hemisphere. Feeding and harvesting are conducted without any need for boats. Strong river flow and tidal movement ensure high oxygen levels, leading to excellent fish muscle development. Petuna recently acquired a major shareholding in Van Diemen Aquaculture.
